Dong-Jin Kim
Patent and Trademark Attorney / Senior Partner
Dong-Jin Kim is one of the three senior partners of Kasan IP and Law Firm, and also heads the Electrical & Electronics team. Mr. Kim's primary practice consists of procurement of patents, patent trials and litigation, and providing counsel in connection with these matters.
Before establishing the firm, he gained experience working as a patent attorney at Koreana Patent Firm, and Nam & Nam Patent & Law Firm in various areas including wireless communication technology, wireless Internet-based technology, network architecture, antennas, e-commerce, and digital signal processing.
Since he established the firm in 2000, Mr. Kim has successfully procured overseas patents in many different specialty areas. He has been involved in a number of patent litigation cases in Korea, for example, Qualcomm vs. Motorola, Telular vs. LG, and Ashai glass vs. Samsung Corning. Also, he performed intellectual property valuations for the LG Electronics CRT team during a mergers and acquisition (M&A) transaction between the CRT team and Phillips, and for LG Information & Communication (LGIC) during an M&A transaction between LGIC and Phillips.
He also prepared patent maps of electric noise reducing technology for the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and performed technology and patent analyses for a number of major corporations.
Mr. Kim has actively served as an examiner of the Korea Technology Transfer Center, which is an organization affiliated with the Korea Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Energy. He is a member of the Korea Patent Attorneys Association, and the International Association for the protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
He received a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Kyungbuk National University in 1994, a B.A. in Law from Korea National Open University in 2001, and an M.S. in Communication Engineering from Yonsei University in 2002. Also, he received a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Tech in the U.S.
Mr. Kim passed the Korean patent bar examination in 1993, and completed the patent attorney training program at the International IP Training Institute in Korea.
He was appointed as a member of the Professional Enquiry Committee with respect to Science and Technology of the Intellectual Property Court, and has offered patent consultation and assessment and lectures.
He is versed in English and Japanese.
